Future trends, McDonald's feces dominate top digital signage stories for January 2019

The top stories in particular focused on future indoor, outdoor and digital transformation trends, as well as McDonald's PR disaster when reporters found fecal matter on multiple of its touchscreen kiosks.

Digital Signage Today readers had their focus set on both future trends and toilet humor last month. The top stories in particular focused on future indoor, outdoor and digital transformation trends, as well as McDonald's PR disaster when reporters found fecal matter on multiple of its touchscreen kiosks.

The top story for 2019 focused on Digital Signage Today's annual Future Trends Report. This report surveyed more than 464 end users across multiple verticals to see how they are using and are planning to use digital signage. It also included key predictions from leaders in the industry on where digital signage is headed in 2019.

Another top story looked at eight key questions end users need to ask their vendors before deployment. These questions include basics such as whether the vendor offers a discount or any training.

5. 7 digital transformation trends of 2019

Digital transformation was a hot topic in 2018 and it is sure to continue impacting organizations in 2019. In fact, according to a Forrester Research survey, 46 percent of executives believe that in less than five years, digital will have an impact on more than half their sales. The World Economic Forum estimated that digital transformation has the potential to create as much as $100 trillion in combined value for both industry and society by 2025.

4. McDonald's fecal touchscreens cause outrage

Unsanitary touchscreens found at McDonald's U.K. restaurants sent shock waves across the pond recently, as numerous U.S. media outlets reported that fecal bacteria were found on touchscreens at all eight U.K. locations where the kiosks have been installed, despite the company's claims that the screens are cleaned daily.
