5 for 5: May's top digital signage headlines

It's time for a look back at the most-read articles and blog posts on Digital Signage Today in May, recapping the biggest news headlines of the month.

Digital signage bloggers ruled in May. Four of the top five most-read pieces of the month on Digital Signage Today were blog posts, running the gamut from advice on video walls to a dire warning against un-secured digital billboards.

Not surprisingly, the overarching theme of the month's most popular blogs and articles fit with overall mission of the site, to show end-users and potential end-users how to use digital signage to do business better, and do better at business, whether that's using screens to create ambiance at a restaurant or engaging fans and creating a memorable experience to get people to the stadium instead of watching on TV.

So, without further ado, here they are, the month of May's most popular headlines, in reverse order:

5. "NY Rangers take digital signage fan experience on long playoff run"

After the NHL's New York Rangers capped off a thrilling comeback against the Washington Capitals in a come-from-behind win in Game 7, the team will be taking its Rangerstown Hockey House, and its multiple digital signage engagements, on an even deeper run through the playoffs.

At more and more sporting events, stadiums and arenas around the country, digital signage is becoming a bigger part of the fan experience beyond the game. Whether it's an experiential engagement at a national championship game or an interactive game during a run through the playoffs, digital signage is getting in the game…

4. "Digital signage serves up more than menu boards"

Taking a peek behind the panel at multifunctional digital menu boards.

Digital signage is now commonplace in today's dining establishments. From quick-serve to fast casual to fine dining, digital signage is now the norm, and something diners have come to expect. In fact, digital menu boards are just part of the overall value proposition of digital signage in the restaurant industry…

3. "Digital signage, it's not just for lobbies anymore"

Digital signage expert blogger looks at a variety of interesting use cases for digital signage in business, education and health care settings.

We know you want to hit large-traffic areas, so lobbies and hallways are an obvious spot to put your screens. That's great for getting news, weather and general announcements out to the masses. But what about targeted messaging inside rooms?

Here are four ideas you may not have thought of…

2. "Full moon: Don't let this happen to your digital signage"

The importance of digital signage security has rarely been made more graphically clear than it was last week in Atlanta, when hackers replaced a digital billboard's regularly scheduled programming with a full moon. And no, I don't mean a picture of Earth's largest satellite.

According to multiple media reports, including one from WSB-TV 2 in Atlanta, a building-side digital billboard in the city's Buckhead district was "hacked" and had its intended content replaced with a particularly graphic image of a man's posterior.

The image was so graphic it prompted at least one 9-11 call, according to the station…

1."Take a tour of the top 5 uses for video walls"

Digital signage blogger looks at five of the top uses for video walls, from data communications to social media boards.

All content looks better on the big screen, or should we say big screens? There is no comparison between a regular digital sign and an entire video wall that guarantees to get your content noticed.

Why do companies invest in video walls? Each has their own needs for their video wall deployment. Based on which content needs to be communicated, they work with their digital signage solution provider to decide which video wall use will work best. Here are the five most common uses for video walls:
