The PPL Center, home arena for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the American Hockey League, now boast a center-hung videoboard designed and installed by GoVision.
The PPL Center is an 8,500-seat capacity indoor sports arena situated in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The Phantoms are a development hockey team for the Philadelphia Flyers.
The four-sided LED videoboard features a pair of sideline displays measuring 22.97 feet by 24.6 foot and twin 22.97 feet by 22.97 feet endline boards comprised of 3,024 individual 3.9mm LED tiles, according to a press release. It is bigger, brighter and sharper than the board that has served the arena since its grand opening in September 2014.
With nearly 2,200 square feet of LED panels, it's almost twice the footprint of the original display, and delivers more than three times the picture detail, with 13.3 million pixels engineered for ultra-high-definition clarity.
The "edgeless" design incorporates next-generation technology to create a seamless, immersive viewing experience from any seat.
"Our relationship with GoVision has been outstanding from the very beginning," Jim Brooks, co-owner and governor of the Phantoms, said in the release. "The new state-of-the-art LED center-hung, ribbon display and marquee boards are perfect examples of their expertise and attention to detail. GoVision continues to be a trusted partner that truly understands our vision for enhancing the fan experience."
In addition to the center-hung board, GoVision installed an LED ribbon board with 10mm panels measuring 2.95 feet high by 859.58 feet wide. A pair of 10mm marquee displays, measuring 15.75 feet high by 6.3 feet wide, complete the video upgrade.
"We're excited to continue our partnership with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on this new LED display project," GoVision Senior Vice President Matt Ritter, who also helped construct the original board, said in the release. "This new equipment ensures the Phantoms remain on the cutting edge of technology, delivering the energy and excitement their fans deserve every night."
