Spectacolor HD billboard turned on in Times Square

October 1, 2007

ATLANTA — Clear Channel Outdoor's Spectacolor Division launched a state-of-the-art digital billboard in New York City's Times Square. The new billboard, branded "Spectacolor HD," will boast the sharpest image quality of any digital billboard in the U.S. while also being the most technologically advanced. Spectacolor HD will run multiple advertiser spots in conjunction with streaming news, weather and live HD broadcasts provided exclusively from CNN.

Spectacolor HD will also be the first digital billboard to provide viewers with a dedicated audio channel received via mobile phones by dialing a toll free number. Advertisers will have access to a standard feature set that includes Bluetooth downloads, interactive content via short code (SPECHD) and Times Square's first free public WiFi Hot Spot.

"Spectacolor HD will deliver the most dynamic canvas available to Times Square advertisers," said Harry Coghlan, president, Clear Channel Spectacolor. "Aside from the visual impact of the HD LED screen, advertisers will benefit from the ability to now create an immersive brand experience with real consumer feedback. Bluetooth downloads will allow people to take a piece of the billboard with them when they leave Times Square to share with friends and family. Interactive content displayed on Spectacolor HD will allow people to communicate directly with a brand and each other through a Web-based interface that turns people's mobile phones into remote controls."
