Egokast unveils video belt buckle

February 18, 2007 by James Bickers — Editor, Networld Alliance

While it is being marketed as a novelty product, the "video belt buckle" from Egokast might have potential for use in pervasive advertising. Perhaps the day of the human billboard has arrived.

The Egokast is a media player with built-in 3.5-inch LCD screen that plays AVI and MPEG-4 video from SD media. It comes with a stainless-steel belt-mounted case, allowing its owner to display whatever video content he or she desires; also included are all the cables needed to transfer content from a computer to the device, battery charger and a 512 MB media card.

The product boasts a 4-hour battery life, and retails for $289. Schools had better start setting aside space in their offices for all the units they will confiscate; undoubtedly, an ad agency somewhere is already working on ways to deliver ads to the machines when they proliferate.
