APN Outdoor enables rugby fan battle with digital signage

APN Outdoor recently deployed several displays at Auckland Airport in Auckland, New Zealand, which allows rugby fans to show their support for their favorite team. By standing in front of the displays with their favorite team's memorabilia, they could change the displays' content to cheer for their team, according to a press release.

The displays urged fans of the All Blacks and British & Irish Lions to battle to "claim the airport." Using image recognition technology, the 65 interactive digital screens updated content based on fans' colors and costumes. The displays also had mobile WAP technology, which allowed fans to override every sign across all terminals. Over six weeks, fans changed the images 96,000 times.

"We were blown away by how flexible and collaborative APN Outdoor were and how excited they are to challenge and stretch the legs of their own systems. It was a total collaboration with them dedicating a portion of their team to join ours to really bring the campaign to life," Mike Felix, creative director of DDB, a collaborator for the project, said in the press release.
