Pepsi the prankster is back at it.
Last week, under the cold and gloomy tunnels of London Bridge, Pepsi Max U.K. gave unsuspecting commuters a shock with some high-speed augmented reality and stereo projection technology.
When unsuspecting walkers entered what looked to be an ordinary tunnel, a bit of digital signage trickeration turned the alleyway into "The Time Tunnel," with sci-fi special effects portals opening up in the space-time continuum, scaring the bejeezus out of passersby as dinosaurs, spacemen and flying jalopies materialized out of thin air.
Creative technology company Grand Visual helped the PepsiCo imprint pull of the prank, which saw a fine gauze partition stretched inside the tunnel on which advanced animations were projected. Add in some clever use of lighting, set dressing and perspective effects, and the tech is hidden and ready to shock and awe with some startlingly realistic effects.
