An Orlando, Fla., radio station took out an ad on Clear Channel Outdoor digital billboards across the city to "welcome" former Orlando Magic and current L.A. Lakers center Dwight Howard back to Orlando.
Radio station POWER 95.3 is running a creative advertising campaign on digital billboards using a countdown clock until Howard, who engendered fan antipathy when he very publicly engineered his exit from the team, once again leaves Orlando.
"Dwight took us on a roller coaster ride for two years as to whether he was staying or going," saidStevie DeMann, POWER 95.3's Program Director, in the announcement. "This time around Orlando knows for sure, exactly when Dwight will 'leave us again' — so let the countdown begin! We are having some fun using ... digital billboards to get Magic fans pumped for tonight's game."
POWER 95.3 is running the countdown creative on 23 of Clear Channel Outdoor's digital billboards across Orlando. According to an announcement from CCO, the campaign began when the station realized the game was coming up and wanted to send an irreverent hello to Dwight. They came up with the concept and worked with Clear Channel Outdoor to get the ads up the next day throughout the Orlando metropolitan area. The creative will run until Orlando can once again say goodbye to Dwight.
"We are very privileged to have a great client that understands the power and immediacy of our OOH Digital programs in Orlando. As an Orlando resident and Magic fan, I know Orlando is a world-class city, with a world-class NBA team in the Orlando Magic," said Craig Swygert, president of Clear Channel Outdoor – Orlando. "Our city and our fans are proud of what we have to offer, and with POWER 95.3 displaying the digital countdown, it shows the passion and the 'Magic' of Orlando."
