While the Gen Z generation loves their mobile devices, apps and social media, they also love engaging with physical retail store associates.

More than half, 58%, prefer the brick-and-mortar shopping environment, according to a Retail Zipline report focused on consumer shopping preferences.

A good majority, 69%, will take fashion advice from associates and 41% will engage with an associate if they like what they are wearing and 19% report genuine relationships wit specific store associates, according to a press release.

The report polled over 1,000 consumers, ages 18 to 24, in the U.S.

"The prevailing cultural narrative often pegs Gen Z as a digital generation that gets caught up by trends they see on social media," said Jeremy Baker, CTO and co-founder of Retail Zipline, in the release. "The reality is they care about connections and community — we know this because they prefer to shop in situations where they can chat with their friends, engage with store associates, and feel confident that their purchase decisions are supporting businesses that treat employees well."
