CNN and LG expanding airport digital signage network

LG Electronics USA and CNN Airport Network today announced further expansion of their longstanding alliance with the installation of new flat-panel LG LED displays at San Diego International Airport this spring. With this installation, LG digital signage screens are showing CNN Airport Network content at more than 25 airports in major cities across the U.S., according to the announcement.

Also underway this spring are LG technology upgrades at a number of major airports including Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and others, LG said. All told, 1,100-plus LG screens now serve more than 1,600 gates with CNN Airport Network's 24/7 high-definition news, entertainment and sports programming, according to the announcement.

"LG's leadership in advanced displays for the transportation industry complements CNN Airport Network's compelling, entertaining and timely programming for busy, on-the-go air travelers," CNN Airport Network President Debbie Cooper said in the announcement. "CNN Airport Network is dedicated to meeting the needs and interests of our audience, and our longstanding alliance with LG is a key to fulfilling that mission."

Launched in 1991, CNN Airport Network bills itself as "the only live satellite-delivered airport programming service specifically designed for the busy traveler." CNN Airport Network delivers live daily news from CNN and HLN, original travel features, entertainment programming from HBO, TBS, TNT and TCM, and live sporting events from premiere sports leagues such as the NBA, MLB and the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

"The CNN Airport Network significantly enhances the gate experience, and we're proud that LG displays bring their compelling content to millions of business and leisure travelers."

In San Diego, the CNN Airport Network is deploying 26 new LG displays serving 49 of the 55 total gates. At DFW Airport, about 200 new LG displays are being deployed in a major upgrade and expansion. In Houston, dozens of displays are being upgraded to new thinner-bezel models.
