3 ways digital signage can deliver a sweeter Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, offering retailers a needed boost after the post-holiday doldrums. Even though many people hate the holiday or prefer the alternative Single's Awareness Day, retailers can still benefit from the occasion, and digital signage can help customers fall in love with a retailer's brand.

Digital signage can deliver gift ideas and digital decorations and even engage the single customer.

Gift ideas

Recently, I have seen many flower companies, wine companies and others advertise their gifts on platforms such as Youtube. They are particularly trying to convince a primarily male audience to not just purchase chocolates for their Valentine, but also to deliver fancier gifts. Digital signage can also tap into this advertising tactic.

A retailer could, for example, use their displays to highlight gift ideas, like a particular piece of jewelry or huge teddy bear. The displays can also give directions on where these items are, so it can help guide the customers along.

Retailers can also advertise great Valentine's Day deals, such as buy-one-get-one-free on candy hearts or even offer tips on the best flowers to pick for a special someone.

Digital decorations

Digital signage isn't just about upselling, it also delivers a better customer experience. One way retailers can do this is by using digital signage as a form of holiday decorations.

AtmosFx, for example, offers a digital 3-D decoration platform called "My Valentine." By using a projector, a retailer can project digital decorations such as candy hearts, roses, Cupid and others onto a display, window, wall and other surfaces.

Coca Cola also made a special vending machine and display a few years back that would only materialize when it detected a couple walking by.

Retailers can also use "digital signage decorations" to help guide customers towards the Valentine's Day area in the store. For example, they could display a Cupid firing an arrow in a certain direction, saying, "This way to candy!"

Engaging with the single customer

Of course, not everyone is love dovey on Valentine's Day, and many singles despise the holiday. Retailers can reach these customers as well through targeted Single's Awareness campaigns on their digital signage.

A store could, for example, run a campaign about celebrating yourself or not needing a date to be complete. Another option is to display an advertisement for wine and chocolate with the tagline, "Treat yourself. Be your own Valentine."

Displays could also integrate videos on how singles plan to celebrate Single's Awareness Day with products from a retailer.

By appealing to singles as well as Valentine's Day lovers, retailers can make the holiday a true success.
