Sometimes there is such a thing as a free lunch

Normally there's no such thing as a free lunch, but a digital signage display in downtown Madrid recently gave out free lunches to people who could create their own menus onscreen in less than a minute.

Normally there's no such thing as a free lunch, but sometimes digital signage and games get involved and change the equation. Outdoor advertising agency JCDecaux recently teamed up with Spanish quick-service restaurant chain Rodilla to deploy a 55-inch touchscreen display that gave participants the chance to put together a tasty lunch meal. If they completed the task in under a minute, they would get a free lunch from Padilla, according to a JCDecaux press release.

The kiosk was deployed in downtown Madrid and displayed a variety of beverages and food from which users could create their ideal menu. The menu was displayed on an image of a smartphone to mimic the feel of ordering from a smartphone app. The screen displayed options such as wraps, salads, sandwiches and soft drinks. A counter in the upper right corner displayed the amount of time remaining.

If users successfully completed the task, the screen would display a promotional code and instruct the user to take a picture of it. From there, the user could take that picture to the nearest Rodilla to receive their free lunch.

This is not the first time JCDecaux has teamed up with a quick-service chain to deliver engaging campaigns and interactive solutions. Earlier this year, the companyteamed up with McDonald's Netherlands to deliverfree McFluries during record high temperatures in Amsterdam.
