UK-based Viewpoint 3D intros new 3D digital signage media player

September 17, 2012

U.K.-based Viewpoint 3D has introduced a new 3D digital signage media player, and is offering its ViewPoint-3D software free of cost through the end of the year, according to 3D Focus.

ViewPoint-3D is software that allows users to produce on-the-spot digital signage content including live data, 3D content, and images, videos and animations at resolutions up to FQHD (3840 x 2160) using standard GPU technology.

The company said the software can operate on low-cost graphics processors, and Viewpoint 3D showed DST a demo of its simple drag-and-drop interface with templates and objects that can be quickly added into a digital signage content presentation.

The new media player, the ePC 3D Media Box, can drive up to eight screens of 4K resolution with live 3D and video, as well as ViewPoint-3D presentations including glasses-free 3D and interactive kiosk applications.

The company's technical director, Robin Colclough, said in the 3D Focus article that his firm's 3D technology is "a very ambitious project, and the idea is to produce more than a replacement for PowerPoint that uses the latest 3D-graphics technology (APUs and Object Orientated software), but to create a completely new way of making content and presentations in a much more natural and human manner."
