UK academy deploys digital signage for education

The Hastings Acadamy boarding school in East Sussex, U.K. has deployed digital signage solutions for a variety of applications, including a 270-degree projection immersive space, a video wall and a dozen information screens, according to an announcement from digital signage hardware provider ONELAN Ltd.

In addition to the new new 270-degree projection immersive space, the school also has deployed large outside projection spaces at the its Creative Learning Center. The system is driven by a ONELAN Net-top-box 6000 media player, and the images are "sliced and shared" by Datapath multiscreen controllers, the announcement said. Projectors then use "hard edge-blend techniques" to match the images together to create the 270-degree display and the large projection.

The Academy also has a video wall driven by a ONELAN NTB 6000 media player and a further ONELAN NTB 6000 media player that drives 12 screens around the Academy campus displaying school news and information, the announcement said. There are another dozen screens at the Academy's sister campus in St. Leonards On Sea, driven by the same publisher across campus.

The video wall installation is a specialist solution tailored for Hastings Academy by integrator CDEC, and it enables a number of inputs to be displayed for both students and teachers. A timed videoconferencing system switches on automatically at the end of lessons so pupils in afterschool clubs and teachers know that if they arrive at the video wall after school, they can share lessons and teaching best practice in an interactive meeting space. The full use of this system is still being developed, the announcement said.
