Sweden's DISE intros Android digital signage player

June 19, 2013

Swedish digital signage software company DISE has developed its next generation of DISE Android players, according to a company announcement.

The Android players feature not only exact synchronization of playback, but also the NoBorders technology that signifies DISE multiscreen systems. NoBorders allows end-users to treat all synchronized screens as a single canvas during the content creation process, allowing content to flow freely between screens, the company said.

A huge number of Android-enabled devices has emerged in the market in the last couple of years. At this point, many of them are powerful enough to power a digital signage screen by themselves, without the need for more expensive PC hardware. Android devices have smaller form-factor, weight and usually no moving parts — all at a price that is generally lower than traditional PC hardware.

The DISE Android player software is powered by a DISE Server back-end which allows end-users to structure the distribution and send content to the players. It's fully possible to mix and match PC-based DISE players with Android players within the same network depending on content requirements of the end-user, the company said.

The Android player features all the traditional strengths of DISE systems such as fully synchronized playback, dynamic content and NoBorders technology. DISE will not supply the hardware components but will certify hardware from a limited number of vendors and approve these players suitable for usage with DISE.

"Adding an advanced android player to our portfolio strengthen our offering even more," said Tobias Ekmark, sales and marketing Ddirector at DISE International AB. "We do believe that this will be a great asset to many of the markets we operate in."

The new player also features:

  • Dynamic content playback to display accurate runtime information such as time tables, arrivals, departures etc.
  • Control and monitoring from the DISE Server back-end.
  • Off-line operation, suitable for installations on moving vehicles.
  • Seamless updates without pauses, progress bars or black screens.
  • Reliability and 24/7 operation.

The company said the release date of the Android player hasn't been set but is planned for later this year.
