SSE Arena Belfast expands digital signage with Uniguest, BrightSign tech

SSE Arena in Belfast, Ireland, which serves as the home of the Belfast Giants Ice Hockey team and as a live events venue, has expanded its use of digital signage to engage event goers, according to a case study shared with this publication.

The 11,000 seat venue first implemented digital signage in 2015, since which time it has expanded its use of the technology to include more than 150 digital displays using the Uniguest SP1 media player, which is built in partnership with BrightSign, and leveraging the Tripleplay software platform.

Content includes delivery of IPTV streams using Uniguest Low Latency Encoders, along with popular live camera feed content such as the Wheel of Cams, in which dancing attendees are shown in camera feeds.

"Since deploying the solution, our food and beverage, and merchandise sales have ultimately grown; digital signage plays a part in that. I also think the fan experience and the investments we've made right across the business impact that as well, but it's fair to say that digital signage has played its part," Clara Killen, digital experience manager at The SSE Arena, said in the case study. "Fans are now more aware when we release special offers and discounts and we're able to communicate those through the digital signage displays. This alone has helped immensely, creating tangible benefits for us as a company."

"We rely very heavily on the digital signage to deliver on several key areas for our business," Claire Cosgrave, associate director of experience at The SSE Arena, said in the case study. "There are the operational benefits. So, if you attend an event in the arena, we utilize the screens to provide health and safety information, directional signage. We also use our digital signage to deliver on our commercial and brand sponsorship activations so that we can show who our sponsors are or promote packages and commercial offerings."
