Out of home advertising revenue hit $2.12 billion in Q1 2026, marking the OOH industry's 20th consecutive quarter of growth and its strongest quarter on record, according to the Out of Home Advertising Association of America, a trade group representing the OOH advertising industry.
Revenue increased 7.1% compared to the same quarter last year.
Digital OOH continued to drive momentum, growing 12.9% year over year and accounting for 36% of total OOH revenue, according to a OAAA press release. Transit was the fastest-growing major format, up 18%, while all digital OOH categories posted gains.
Advertising from computers, software and internet services brands increased 139% year over year.
The data also shows 72% of the top 100 OOH advertisers increased spend compared to the same period last year, while Morgan & Morgan, Apple, McDonald's, and Verizon ranked among the top spenders.
"This record-setting start to the year reflects the confidence marketers have in out of home as a performance-driven media channel," Anna Bager, president and CEO of OAAA, said in the release. "Advertisers continue to invest in OOH because it delivers a unique combination of scale, creative impact, and measurable business outcomes. Recent research from OAAA and Kochava found that OOH delivers twice the performance lift of television, reinforcing what we're seeing in the marketplace as brands increasingly turn to OOH to drive both awareness and action. The continued growth of digital formats, alongside strong spending from technology, financial services, and consumer brands, demonstrates the expanding role OOH plays in today's media mix."
