NYC self-storage firm hoists digital billboard to increase traffic

March 29, 2012

Storage Post, a self-storage solutions provider, installed a Daktronics LED digital billboard with more than 144 quadrillion colors and 8,400 brightness nits, at its Fordham Road storage facility in Bronx, N.Y., according to an announcement from Storage Post.

Working closely with Daktronics, Storage Post put up the sign, named the PosTron, to market to a larger population.

Storage Post has numerous locations in the greater New York area, and chose digital signage to catch the attention of fast-moving and busy New York commuters traveling the Major Deegan Expressway. The 16-by-29-foot message board, located at the foot of University Heights Bridge, reaches tens of thousands of travelers every day.

"We gravitated toward a multipurpose, animated video board because it can communicate several messages in the space of a few moments. We know our New York customers; they have a long commute, and little time to pay attention to marketing," said Storage Post COO Jack Chaney in the announcement. "We hope our PosTron can entertain, as well as inform about the products and services Storage Post offers."

Video clips and messaging are updated on a regular basis and display local news and community events, storage unit specials and Storage Post amenities. As a result of the eye-catching signage, the company said its storage rental inquiries have increased, along with improved brand recognition and company visibility.
