Commercial LCD display and projector solutions provider NEC Display Solutions of America today announced two new Open Pluggable Specification-compliant computers for integration into the built-in OPS expansion slots of NEC's V, P and X Series displays, and its E705, E805 and E905 models.

The Technovare Systems OPS-PCIB-5PH (500GB A/V HD) and the OPS-PCIB-5PS (128GB SSD) single-board computers will be demonstrated at InfoComm15 today and tomorrow at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

The OPS PCs are based on the fifth-generation Intel Core processor family and are designed to provide high performance, balanced with low power consumption, so they can be used in any place where a Windows machine is needed, and include built-in Wi-Fi and multiple USB 3.0 ports, the company said.

The OPS platform is an industry-wide standard for the design and development of digital signage to simplify installation and maintenance. These internal PCs can run multiple video formats and are targeted for use with digital signage in airports, quick-service restaurants, education, rental and staging, corporate lobbies, health care facilities and retailers.

"NEC Display and Intel have established a longstanding relationship around OPS, and the delivery of this latest robust PC architecture continues that industry-leading collaboration," said Keith Yanke, senior director for large-screen displays and projectors at NEC Display Solutions. "With multiple USB, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi inputs, as well as UHD support and DisplayPort-out for a second monitor connection, these new PCs provide numerous ways to get data to the display.  They also can facilitate delivery of content on more than one display and provide up to 4K resolution."

Media player company Technovare Systems Inc. partnered with NEC to design and build the two new accessories.

"The new OPS solutions leveraging Intel technology elevate the look and feel of any NEC digital signage implementation," said Barry Hsieh, principal partner at Technovare. "Built for rugged digital signage usage, they also inspire the imagination in new ways to communicate with key audiences."

The key features of the OPS PCs include:

  • Intel Core i5-5257U Processor 2.7 GHz Dual Core CPU;
  • Windows 8.1 Pro OS standard;
  • 4GB dual channel memory to provide better performance for graphics-intensive applications;
  • Wi-Fi, to enable the updating and refreshing of content wirelessly without the need for a hard connection to the display; and
  • UHD resolution support, to future proof the investment.

"Intel has built a reputation for innovating new technologies and spearheading new markets, and NEC Display brings a similar pedigree to digital signage," said Jose Avalos, worldwide director of visual retail, Retail Solutions Division, Intel. "OPS PCs deliver elegance to any installation, and give users the capability necessary to create ways to promote their branding and messaging."

The OPS-PCIB-5PH and OPS-PCIB-5PS will be available in late July 2015 at a minimum advertised price of $1,479 and $1,549, respectively, and come with a three-year warranty.
