The Plattsmouth, Nebraska Board of Education recently voted down a proposal to deploy informational display boards throughout its middle and high schools. The digital informational screens, developed by SkoolLive, would have displayed school information and advertising, according to a report by Fremont Tribune.
The school board voted five to three against the project, citing concern that the kiosks would be distracting and hurt local businesses. The advertising revenue for the kiosks would have been spilt, with SkoolLive receiving 80 percent of the revenue and the school receiving 20 percent.
"I seriously don't see how this would help us," Karen Parsons, board member, said. "I don't think we would be gaining very much from this at all."
The school has supported local businesses by placing advertisements on scoreboards and in the gym. "I'm concerned about this," Ken Winters, a board member, said. "I wouldn't want to see any of the ads that might be on those kiosks compete with the local businesses that have been really good to us over the years."
