Maryland fine arts museum informs visitors with digital signage

August 1, 2014

Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, in Hagerstown, Maryland, has deployedtouchscreen digital signage to inform and engage with museum-goers in the museum's front lobby and in its new Singer Memorial Gallery, according to an announcement from digital signage provider Signera.

"Initially, we used our digital sign to provide visitor information in the museum's entry lobby; it has become a really helpful reference for us. It gives information on the floor plan, current exhibitions, events and programs, photographs of current and recent events, weather, a [news feed] on the art market, and has touch buttons for more information including a welcome video," WCMFA Director Rebecca Massie Lane said in the annoncement. "The [touchscreen-enabled] sign in the new Singer Memorial Gallery is a huge hit with museum audiences, and we hope to do several more. The sign provides great, detailed information on works of art to visitors who want to learn more than is available through [traditional museum] labels… and it also keeps the exhibition walls focused on the works of art with very little space devoted to texts."
