The Kroger Co. has partnered with Microsoft Corp. to test shelf edge displays and internet of things solutions at two stores in Monroe, Ohio, and Redmond, Washington. The grocery chain will use Microsoft's Azure platform along with IoT sensors to create the experience, according to a press release.
Kroger will use its Enhanced Displays for Grocery Environment shelving system to replace traditional paper tags with digital displays, which can showcase pricing, promotions and dietary information. Microsoft will connect the EDGE system with Kroger's mobile checkout Scan, Bag and Go program using Azure AI. The grocery will also integrate other features such as:
