AZ governor signs limited digital billboard bill, protects observatories

May 11, 2012

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has signed a bill to allow digital billboards along some portions of state freeways around Phoenix.

The news could clear the way for digital billboard advertising companies to put up more digital billboards, and possibly for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals to put up digital billboards and other signage outside University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

Brewer approved this limited bill after she vetoed an earlier, broader version that would have allowed electronic signs statewide. The newer bill restricts the signs near Arizona observatories after astronomers in the state said the brightnesss of the signs could negatively affect their work.
