For those not in the know, Exponation LLC, the parent company of Digital Signage Expo, recently filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. This filing means the company is liquidating all of its assets and shutting down permanently.
As a result, Digital Signage Expo will obviously not be happening this year. And the culprit is obvious: COVID-19.
Digital Signage Expo began on poor footing this year when it had to delay the event twice due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, and now it appears that 2019 was the final year of Digital Signage Expo.
I have attended this event every year since 2017, and it will always stand out in my memory as an interesting experience.
During my first year in attendance, the event was overwhelming to say the least. It took me a long time to find the location in the sprawling Las Vegas Convention Center, and from there I had to traverse booth after booth to both find events and companies to speak to. It also didn't help that during my first year there, my dress shoes decided to fall apart on me.
In the two subsequent years, I was able to gain my stride at Digital Signage Expo. I figured out the overall location itself, as well as which events were the most efficient use of my time.
In addition, I not only got a sense of who's who in the digital signage industry, but also what really is out there in the digital signage space.
I learned a great deal both from booths and keynote speakers alike about:
I also had a chance to interact with end users at the event and learn not only how they used digital signage but what they were looking for in a solution.
The key takeaway I got from Digital Signage Expo is that digital signage is a highly malleable tool that can meet the needs of many different industries, as long as you're creative enough to use it properly.
With all that being said, I would like to say, "Farwell to Digital Signage Expo." It was a fun ride when I got to experience it. (Also, getting to see Las Vegas is always fun, just saying).
