Moore's Law essentually observes that computer processing power will double every two years. There's not (yet) an analogous "law" for the pace of advancement in digital signage display technologies — but the pace of change is fast and doesn't seem to be slowing.
Whether it's the advent of 4K ultra-HD screens, new curved screens, the introduction of transparent screens or glasses-free 3D screens, new display technologies present an ever-changing and ever-adapting face for digital signage.
A recent webinar, "Emerging Digital Signage Technologies - Advancements in Video and Display Technologies," hosted by Digital Signage Today and digital signage specialists Omnivex Corp. took a look at both sides of some of these new display technologies, the good and the bad.
Omnivex CEO and Director of Software Development Doug Bannister led the hourlong, free event, taking a hard look at the pros and cons of emerging video and display technologies in relation to digital signage, as well as providing real-world examples of how these technologies are being used and key considerations for implementation.
The technologies under review ran the gamut of 4K displays, touch and multitouch screens, transparent displays, curved displays and 3D displays, along with how or why (or why not) to deploy them.
Digital Signage Today live-tweeted the event on Twitter under the hashtag #omnivexfuturetech, and captured the highlights of Bannister's discussion; you can scroll through all the tweets and any responses below:
