A look ahead to London's Screen Expo

The show is set to attract many global attendees.

December 30, 2007

Screen Expo Europe will open its doors on February 5, 2008, and there is already a buzz about the show on each side of the Atlantic Ocean. According to Screen Events Ltd., the organizers of the show, attendance is set to be 50 percent bigger than last year's show.

Screen Expo will run through February 6 at Olympia's National Hall in West London.

The event, now in its third year, will be hosting exhibitors from 15 different countries from Europe, North America and the Middle East. Screen Events also said that there are more than 30 first-time exhibitors attending the show this year, and for the first time there will be exhibitors from Russia and India.

"We are particularly pleased with this development as it shows us that the market is now maturing and the scope for digital signage and media networks across a broad range of vertical markets is really taking hold," said Mark Pigou, director of Screen Events.

Screen Expo is known for attracting a global array of visitors and attendees. The 2007 Expo, held around the same time last year at the nearby Earl's Court Convention Center, saw 3,500 visitors from 46 countries. Exhibitors looking to network on a worldwide level and explore digital signage particularly in the UK will have the opportunity to do so.

Bob Ventresca, director of marketing for software provider and Screen Expo veteran NetKey, said the company appreciates the worldwide exposure.

"[We] recognize the worldwide market opportunity for digital signage, and our software platform is well-suited to support the needs of European signage deployers in multiple industries," Ventresca said.

He also said the company plans to use Screen Expo to launch a comprehensive program for value-added resellers and audio-visual integrators for NetKey software usage.

3M will show interactive Vikuiti film, like the die-cut screen on the right, which takes its shape from the 3M logo.

Also returning to the show will be 3M Digital Signage, who will be demonstrating interactive capabilities of its Vikuiti Rear Projection film, which garnered attention at last year's show. The film will be used as an interactive store window designed for high street applications, giving passers-by 24/7 access to store and product info.

Coming from the Middle East, Minicom plans to unveil its extended-range DS Vision 3000 digital signage distribution system at the Expo and is also a sponsor of the Digital Signage Showcase, an area highlighting the digital signage deployment process from content creation to point-of-display. The Showcase will feature product presentations from vendors in each segment of the digital signage process.

"Planning and rolling out a digital signage project is a complex process, requiring multi-layer coordination between multitudes of vendors," said Daniela Santos, marketing manager for Jerusalem-based Minicom.

The two theaters on the show floor will be filled by Content Centre and Advertising Centre, both offering learning programs. The Content Centre will focus on implications of screen positioning, dwell time, sound and audience demographics that need to be taken into consideration when planning content for a public screen.

The Advertising Centre will take a look at reaching out to advertising agencies and their potential for maximizing the value of digital signage through media placement and ad sales.

Presentations will also be made at the Thought Leadership Pavilion and Network Owner's Pavilion, also located on the show floor. The Thought Leadership Pavilion will feature new digital signage research and speakers discussing the future of the industry.

The Network Owner's Pavilion will have presenters walking through case studies using live network feeds. They will also give tips for choosing a network, backed up by real-world experience and research.
