3Gsignage launches iBrand application for iPhone

App uses e-couponing to draw shoppers to digital out-of-home screens in retail locations and can integrate with digital signage SaaS platform.

February 14, 2010

3Gsignage is globally releasing an iPhone coupon application which can be used in combination with its digital signage software as a service.

The app allows iPhone users to download, save and redeem and tip friends about special offers and discounts from stores. Users can save bar-coded coupons in their e-wallets and use the GPS store locator to redeem their coupons from other stores. This customer loyalty initiative reinforces the impact of messages displayed on digital signage screens.

Enticed to return to the store repeatedly to redeem their coupons, customers are pulled directly in front of LCD or plasma screens where product information is shown in a compelling format.

This integration of signage and mobile targeting aims to speed up return on digital signage network investment by increasing the size and frequency of visits of captive audiences in the screens' vicinity. The iBrand application and 3Gsignage's digital signage Web-based solution complement each other and are offered either as a bundled formula or as independent solutions.

The rationale behind the development of the application, which will be extended to other brands of smart cell phones, was to provide retailers with another powerful media that could leverage digital signage's full potential and give a modern twist to the benefits of coupons.
3Gsignage's iBrand application also acts as a viral marketing instrument allowing for measurably cost-effective brand awareness enhancement. As the application generates increased Web traffic it gives retailers the opportunity to utilize the iBrand platform as media space for themselves or third parties at a competitive cost per unique user rate. The introduction of the iPhone customer loyalty program helps accelerate business growth and profit by winning strong loyalty from the coveted iPhone-using customer segment.

"Our iPhone e-coupon helps retailers attract and retain high-end demographics who value personal touches and innovative initiatives," said 3Gsignage's Marketing Director, Tara McCluskey-Anthun. "We believe it is an effective response to the shift from mass to one-to-one marketing."

According to Rubicon Research, half of iPhone users are under 30 years-old, are ‘early adopters,' have a higher education, have incomes 40 percent higher than the median. Further, 40 percent of them strongly stated that they were keen to add new software applications to their iPhone and 77 percent said they increased Web browsing with the iPhone. Retailers are enabled to respond to consumer behavior as quickly as they receive metrics from every redeemed coupon. Also, with the elimination of printing and advertising costs the combined use of digital signage and iBrand delivers the highest ROI of all other traditional promotional tools. In Oslo, Scandinavia, where the application was first tested and released last fall, 10 percent of the population uses an iPhone 13 percent of which downloaded the capital's popular deli chain's application and were redeeming the weekly offers so quickly merchandise was selling out on the second day of the week. Merely a month following the introduction of the iPhone coupons a 62 percent increase of products advertised on the store's digital signage screens was recorded.
