The University of Charleston keeps students entertained with Planar displays

December 20, 2016

The University of Charleston in West Virginia recently opened its Innovation Center to allow students to watch sporting events. The university partnered with Advanced to install two Planar LCD displays in the Innovation Center, according to a press release.

Advanced deployed two screens, one 6 x 1 welcome banner at the entrance and a 3 x 3 central display for students to watch sporting events. The displays are designed with power modules that are placed into quad controllers to provide power from a distance.

"With these monitors, the power modules are offloaded into quad controllers, which allows us to install the displays directly against the wall," Greg Priest, senior account manager at Advanced, said in the release. "This makes them significantly lighter because they have no immediate backing components. They don't need to be directly plugged in, thus eliminating the need for on-site outlets. With that being said, we were able to hook up both displays to an equipment rack in a control room that’s located about 100 feet away."

Advanced also provided a 7-inch touch panel at the reception area so employees can control the content and the display’s functions.

"The 6x1 banner is the perfect welcome sign, because it could be personalized to the season, game, or event being hosted within the Innovation Center,” Priest said. "With Tight Rope Media Digital Signage players, key staff members can design and display whatever messaging they'd like. Customization is key to a warm welcome, and digital displays allow them to do just that."

Advanced will also install a multi-room audio system for the Innovation Center, according to the release.
