Southern Methodist University is fast-tracking its 2110 System Broadcast Production Facility project as part of its move to the Atlantic Coast Conference, according to a press release.

As part of the project, the SMU Indoor Performance Center's Armstrong Fieldhouse will be retrofitted and equipped with two full linear control rooms and two full digital control rooms, along with editing suites, a shading and engineering room, a cut-in studio, a technical operations center, and production staff offices. The broadcast studios are designed around a SMPTE 2110-compliant core and 1080p HDR base resolution, capable of up to 8K.

SMU has partnered with Anthony James Partners, an owner's representative and technology consultant, with the project slated for completion in Fall 2024. Additional partners include SMU Athletics, the Office of Information Technology (OIT), GSBS Architects, and Clark Construction.

"SMU is committed to excellence in everything we do, and the development of this production studio to meet this major milestone is no different," Rick Hart, director of athletics at SMU, said in the release. "As SMU embarks on this exciting journey, we extend our deepest gratitude to our donors. Their support and vision have been instrumental in making this project a reality. Together, we are not just meeting the current standards of sports broadcasting, we are setting new ones for the future."
