Shipping firm harnesses digital signage for fleet efficiency

U.K.-based Eclipse Digital Media has provided an end-to-end digital signage solution for shipping firm Carisbrooke Shipping. In addition to corporate communications, Eclipse developed a custom dynamic data widget to provide a real-time overview of Carisbrooke's fleet fuel consumption, according to a press release.

Carisbrooke Shipping is a privately owned shipping company based in Cowes, England, on the Isle of Wight. From its origins in the 1960s, the company has grown into a worldwide shipping profider with a fleet of more than 50 dry-cargo and multipurpose vessels from offices in the U.K., Holland and Germany.

Eclipse Digital Media supplied a range of Samsung 48-inch commercial SSP displays installed in three Carisbrooke Shipping offices in the U.K., Holland and Germany. The displays receive content from Eclipse Digital Media's cloud-based digital signage software, Embed Signage, which enables Carisbrooke Shipping to create multizone, multimedia content and distribute it to each individual screen.

"We've been looking for a way to improve information flow within our company as well as providing some introductory info for our visitors — Digital Signage seemed like a perfect fit," said Daniel Lewandowski, IT manager for Carisbrooke Shipping. "Our solution needed to be flexible and easy to manage — preferably cloud based, allowing centralized management of devices located in different geographical locations. We reviewed several platforms, however, Embed Signage provided by Eclipse Digital Media offered the widest range of features for an affordable price."

Carisbrooke uses the ability to connect Embed Signage with other external Web services, allowing for real-time content updates such as exchange rates or commodity prices, the release said. The dynamic data widget enables Carisbrooke to show real-time Energy Efficiency Monitoring System data about its fleet's fuel oil consumption on its digital signage via Embed Signage.
