Rhode Island's Dunkin' Donuts Center bites on Daktronics digital marquee

January 11, 2011

Brookings, S.D.-based Daktronics Inc. recently announced that it had designed, manufactured and installed a new light emitting diode (LED) marquee display for the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I.

"This new marquee will allow us to reach fans and passers-by 365 days of the year," said Lawrence Lepore, general manager for venue management firm SMG. "We've worked with Daktronics in the past, and we are happy to do so again. It's a great way to keep our community informed and to provide additional visibility for our events."

The two-sided marquee display, with each side measuring approximately nine feet high by 16 feet wide, incorporates high clarity and contrast for video images, multiple levels of protection from the elements and a more robust cabinet design with an improved ventilation system, officials from Daktronics said. With pixels spaced at 15 mm, both vehicle traffic and pedestrians will have clear visibility of the signage, which has the capability to show animations and graphics and promote upcoming events, according to the company.

The Dunkin' Donuts Center is in the heart of the capital city of Providence, R.I. It is a 14,000-seat, multipurpose indoor sports and entertainment venue attracting more than one million visitors annually. The Center plays home for the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins and the NCAA's Providence College Friars, and Daktronics had previously installed a center-hung display in 2007 that includes 12 LED video and ribbon displays.

"We have a valued, long-term partnership with the Dunkin' Donuts Center," Daktronics regional sales manager Ross Yanco said in the release. "We are very pleased to be working with them again on this project. The new marquee will only add to the Center's impressive array of video technology."
