Purdue University slam dunks with LED displays from Daktronics

Purdue University is upgrading Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana, adding 13 LED displays from Daktronics. The company will deploy a center-hung display system and ribbon and corner displays, according to a press release.

The center-hung display will be made up of four 13 feet high by 19 feet wide curved video displays, each with 6-millimeter line spacing. Daktronics will deploy a ring display above it measuring 3-feet high by 109-feet in circumference and with 10-milimeter line spacing.

Other displays will include four 11-feet high by 20-feet wide video displays in each corner of the arena and four ribbon displays, measuring 3-feet high by 47-feet wide, which will be placed in the seating fascia. The centerhung and corner displays will be designed with variable content zoning to show one large image or multiple smaller ones for live video, instant replay, animation, sponsorship messages and game statistics.

"We're excited to work with Purdue University on a such a complex design for new video display in Mackey Arena," Ryan Stratton, sales representative, Daktronics, said in the release. "The new centerhung configuration will bring excitement and energy to the building during every home game and we’re looking forward to seeing it happen this winter for the Boilermakers."
