Planar inks acquisition of motion capture company NaturalPoint

Planar Systems, a display systems company, has acquired NaturalPoint, an optical tracking and motion capture company. Planar hopes to use this acquisition to pursue opportunities in augmented and virtual reality, along with other markets, according to a press release.

NaturalPoint provides a variety of motion capture systems such as OptiTrack, TrackIR and SmartNav. Planar plans to use NaturalPoint's skills to expand into drone tracking, movement sciences, animation and more.

NaturalPoint will remain its own business, despite the merger. It will also have its own customers and executive team, according to the release.
