A recent deal between Pattison Outdoor and the Edmonton Transit System has brought digital messaging to several Edmonton light rail stations.
According to the Canadian news site MetroNews, the new Digital Transit Network, which is similar to a system in Toronto, will provide digital messaging at 12 stations through nearly 40 digital screens. The 55-inch screens are larger than those in the Toronto transportation network.
Edmonton Transit officials estimate that the messages, which include advertisements along with real-time news content and transit information, will reach more than 500,000 commuters weekly, according to the news site.
"We have the ability on the screens to do split screens," ETS spokeswoman Patricia Waisman told Metro News. "So at the top there is the time, weather and local news. Then in the middle, we have 10-minute loops and we have 40 different ad spots, so every 15 seconds you'll see a different advertisement. And ETS has the ability to have eight of the 40 spots to promote products or timely information. Then at the bottom, there will be next time arrival."
