Oregon retirement community goes high-tech with digital signage

In the Mary's Woods continuing-care retirement community just south of Portland, Oregon, a recent facilities upgrade included the implementation of a digital signage network to improve communication between the facility's visitors, staff and residents, according to an announcement from media player provider BrightSign.

In the Mary's Woods continuing-care retirement community just south of Portland, Oregon, a recent facilities upgrade included the implementation of a digital signage network to improve communication between the facility's visitors, staff and residents, according to a case study from media player provider BrightSign.

"We developed our new content strategy to harness the flexibility and beauty that only digital signage can deliver," said Cheri Mussotto-Conyers, director of marketing and client relations for Mary's Woods. "The display and content communication combination draws attention, creates interest and promotes engagement and interaction better than any other medium we could have chosen. This enables us to focus communication on targeted audiences so everyone — from residents to staff members — feels as if we're speaking to them personally."

According to the BrightSign case study, a network of Planar Systems Inc. digital signage displays replaced a legacy communications strategy that relied on a combination of bulletin boards, fliers and other ad-hoc announcements, streamlining the communications process and ensuring consistent, legible, timely communication with both staff and residents. The displays feature content driven by BrightSign media players networked wirelessly via in-facility Wi-Fi.

The facility also plans to install a standalone kiosk in the activities area that will allow residents to use touchscreen interactivity to arrange transportation, sign up for and RSVP to various events.
