An Ohio township is considering changes to its zoning ordinance, including new regulations governing digital signage and billboards, according to Vindy.com.
The Mahoning County plan commission endorsed the changes last month, and they will go before the Milton Township trustees this month.
To avoid distracting motorists, the newspaper said, the new digital sign and billboard rules would limit their brightness and require that at least eight seconds elapse between changes of the sign face.
"We wanted to take an affirmative step to get a series of regulations" on digital signs and billboards, the township's interim zoning inspector told the newspaper. The current zoning regulations don't address this relatively new technology, he added.
