NEC, KT conclude 5G identity verification tests in PyeongChang

February 27, 2018

NEC Corp. and KT Corp., a South Korean communications carrier, recently concluded a 5G test with a "5G Connected Bus" in PyeongChang, South Korea. This bus provided identity verification for drivers, according to a press release.

A wireless earphone equipped with otoacoustic authentication technology used the resonation of sound in ear cavities to identify individuals. NEC also provided NeoFace, its AI engine for face recognition to verify the driver's identity.

"NEC will continue leveraging its strengths in AI, biometrics, network, and other technologies as we collaborate with KT on the development, testing, and demonstration of technologies and services for the commercialization of 5G," Tomonori Kumagai, general manager of the business development division at NEC, said in the release.
