LG Electronic USA's webOS 3.5 smart TV platform recently received a Common Criteria certification for its Application Security Solution Version 1.0 software. The software passed a CC test that examines application installation, execution and content protection, according to a press release.
LG webOS 3.5 is designed with a digital signature verification process to block the installation of unauthorized apps. It also offers sandboxing technology to block access to system and device data on native apps. The platform also comes with a DRM license verification process that decrypts content inside RAM to create a backup of encrypted content.
"We have taken every possible step to ensure that webOS 3.5 offers excellent application protection and the highest level of privacy security," Matt Durgin, director of content innovation, LG Electronics USA, said in the release. "Consistent with customers' concerns over product security issues, we have enhanced the security of our smart TV platform. Certification by Common Criteria confirms that we're on the right track when it comes to customer privacy and data protection."
