LCD-TV panel units will drop by 10% this year to 257.8 million units, down from 287.7 million units in 2019, according to a report by Omdia. One of the major reasons for this downturn is overproduction by Chinese manufacturers, according to a press release.
"The LCD-TV panel market will make history this year — but not in a good way," Peter Su, principal analyst, large display, at Omdia, said in the release. "Area shipments are set for their first-ever annual decline in 2020 as suppliers reduce production and reorganize their manufacturing operations to pursue higher-value applications outside of the LCD-TV panel market."
Most of this downturn hits the 32- to 55-inch LCD displays. However, large displays that are more than 65 inches will actually increase by 21% in 2020, according to the release.
