The International Sign Association has released a new white paper, "Dynamic Digital Signage Opportunities for Sign Companies," that examines the size of the market opportunity and includes case studies of sign shops that have incorporated this rapidly growing line of business, according to an announcement from the ISA. "Dynamic Digital Signage Opportunities for Sign Companies," sponsored by Roland DGA Corp., includes considerations for print providers expanding into the market, the ISA said.

"There is no doubt that dynamic digital signage is rapidly expanding and presents tremendous business opportunities for print providers and sign companies," ISA President and CEO Lori Anderson said in the announcement. "ISA will continue to provide information and education to help sign companies determine whether this opportunity aligns with their strategic business goals."

Digital signage will grow to $17.1 billion in worldwide sales by 2017, according to the white paper, and about one-third of that will be in the U.S. Digital signage provides solutions for numerous end-users, with retail currently as the top market, followed closely by quick-service restaurants, corporate and health care applications, the ISA said. End-user applications make sense for national chains as well as single-location outlets.

And according to the ISA, digital signage in many ways does not require an entirely new skill set for sign companies or print providers; the white paper shows the applicable skills that most sign companies likely already possess.
