European digital signage content management software provider Grassfish and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. today announced the formal certification and release of the Grassfish Version 8 software solution, now compatible with the full range of Samsung Smart Signage displays.

Grassfish's latest software release, Version 8, introduces feature-rich, integrated media player software, developed specifically for the latest series of Samsung Smart Signage Platform-supported Samsung Smart Signage displays. SSSP is designed to be an all-in-one solution that eliminates the need for an external PC or media player device. Version 8 now supports all sizes of Samsung displays, ranging from small signage (starting at 10 inches) for door sign and shelf applications, to large-format displays for retail and corporate installations, according to the announcement.

"We are pleased to enhance our ongoing partnership with the recognized world leader in visual display," Grassfish CEO Roland Grassberger said in the announcement. "The Samsung Smart Signage Platform and Samsung tablets are both key systems in many digital signage projects around the world. By bringing compatibility with our latest version release, we are able to offer the combined benefits of Samsung's powerful system-on-chip technology and our enterprise-grade CMS."

Samsung Electronics and Grassfish said they have enjoyed a long and successful collaboration pairing their hardware and software technologies, and the now deeper level of integration enables global clients to benefit from this close collaboration. Initial deployment of the combined solutions will be with the ÖBB Group, which will deliver Smart Signage solutions to the Austrian Railway Corp. later this year, the announcement said.

Grassfish also will join Samsung as a SSSP Partner at the IFA Berlin starting this week in Germany.

"This partnership between Grassfish and Samsung Electronics helps our companies more effectively respond to evolving display needs in a rapidly expanding market," said Damon Crowhurst, business development director, Samsung European Display. "The integration of our pioneering technologies creates turnkey solutions that allow faster deployment of digital signage, while improving reliability and optimizing energy consumption for the benefit of our common customers. The growing ecosystem of Smart Signage-compatible content management systems validates the significant benefits that the system-on-chip technology brings to the market."
