Exceptional 3D, the supplier of glasses-free 3D autostereoscopic display solutions, announced that the company will be introducing its new product line of 3D display technology in 4K resolution at this week's Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas, in the show's New Product Showcase.

The company said the announcement follows a similar path to what is going on in the consumer industry over the past couple of years: With most television manufacturers producing 4K TVs while slashing prices, more consumers are now purchasing 4K TVs for their homes with the anticipation of seeing more 4K content delivered by network and cable content providers.

"Yes, 4K displays are definitely here," Exceptional 3D President and CEO Mike Egan said. "This was quite evident at this past year Consumer Electronics Show, where 4K televisions were 'the norm.' We are now seeing this translate in the digital signage industry too. With the prices of 4K panels dropping like the consumer market, now virtually everyone in the commercial space is asking about 4K displays."

Egan said it is "a natural evolution" for Exceptional 3D to transition to 4K displays for its 3D solution: "When you look at so many content providers that are now shooting content in 4K as well as 3D, coupled with the increased popularity of 3D CGI-type graphics being incorporated into so many advertisements these days by Madison Avenue agencies, we felt the need to create a solution for our digital signage industry customers to capitalize on the demand for both technologies."

The newly appointed director of technical operations for Exceptional 3D, Dr. Mohamed Mekky said in the announcement that "transitioning from HD to 4K content for our glasses-free 3D lens solution has allowed us the ability to produce our new lens design to be much thinner; you can barely notice the lens on the display."
