DSE: Hybrid content delivery for digital signage

February 24, 2011

Microspace Communications Corp. showcased its hybrid content delivery network for digital signage at this year's Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas.

According to Greg Weaver, manager of digital signage networks for Microspace, the company's delivery system uses satellite signals to deliver content to media players and networks, but uses a cellular signal to send back information on the network's or displays' performance to a centralized control location. Weaver, who spoke at the new exhibitor press briefing Thursday, said using a hybrid solution is a more cost-effective approach for delivery of large content files for playback.

MCC's modems employ either 3G or 4G technology, and the company said they can deliver high-capacity connectivity for less than $20 a month in large deployments when used with with its Velocity platform.
