According to mediabuyerplanner.com, department stores are moving toward using digital signage for their store windows in an effort to attract a new generation of shoppers used to the bright, engaging and interactive capabilities of the Internet and mobile devices.
Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman — department stores known for their extravagant holiday windows at their New York City locations — are incorporating digital out-of-home elements into their holiday window displays this year.
Saks' display includes enormous snowflakes projected onto the facade of the store by digital projectors, and its windows include two 3-D video monitors that don't require special glasses to view them, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
Meanwhile, Macy's is using LCD screens to tell the "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" story, the article said.
