Starting this summer, visitors to Canada's capital region in Ottawa will notice a fewtechnology upgrades aimed at modernizing the city's tourism and improving the visitor experience.
The National Capital Commission has introduced more than 40 capital Wi-Fi interactive touchscreen units to extend free Wi-Fi hot spots. The digital signage units will serve as an electronic wayfinding application to help pedestrians find useful information about the capital, maps, activities and tourism-rich content to access, as well as find where special offers or deals are taking place, according to the NCC. The convenience of free Wi-Fi over 3G/LTE networks allows visitors to experience rich multimedia without the burden of roaming charges, the NCC said.
"The capital region welcomes more than 10 million visitors each year, and they are looking for information by various means, including the Internet and smartphones," said Daniel Feeny, director of marketing and partnerships at the NCC. "The capital Wi-Fi service and the new Interactive TouchScreen units are part of our innovative approach that uses technology to enhance the visitor's experience."
