Daktronics' new NFL deployments ready for kickoff
September 2, 2010
When the National Football League kicks off its season later this month, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, Washington Redskins and New England Patriots home games will feature game action on new Daktronics LED video display systems, the company says.
Brookings, S.D.-based Daktronics says it has systems working in 29 of the 31 NFL venues. (There are 32 NFL teams, but the Giants and the Jets share New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey.)
At the New Meadowlands Stadium, Jets and Giants fans will watch the action on four high-definition video displays positioned behind the corners of the end zones. These displays utilize Daktronics HD-12 technology with lines of pixels on 12-millimeter spacing, with enough resolution to simultaneously present two true high-definition video images side by side. The Daktronics super system at the New Meadowlands Stadium also includes a digital ribbon board more than 1,800 feet long that circles the inside of the seating bowl; lower-level game-in-progress ribbon boards; 20 digital pylons outside the stadium; and many other displays to generate excitement for fans on game days and exposure for corporate partners, the company says.
According to the release, the Baltimore Ravens upgraded their video display system with HD-16 technology from Daktronics. The Ravens, working with the Maryland Stadium Authority, were one of the first NFL teams to opt for a super-wide aspect ratio (24 feet high by 100 feet wide) for their large screens when M&T Bank Stadium opened in 1998. The new displays pack more pixels into the existing space and structure, providing greater picture quality, improved viewing angles and reduced power consumption.
The Washington Redskins' FedEx Field has two new giant Daktronics LED video boards that will display live video, highlights, game information, fantasy stats, animation, interactive messages and more on two end-zone video displays and new digital-ribbon boards.
Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, has new end-zone displays with Daktronics HD-15 technology aimed at improving the game day experience for fans of the Patriots and Major League Soccer's Revolution.
The Kansas City Chiefs' recently-renovated Arrowhead Stadium features Daktronics-designed and manufactured oval-shaped LED end-zone displays that the HD-16 technology. The Chiefs also added large LED ribbon boards.
The New Meadowlands', Ravens', Redskins' and Patriots' systems also include the new Show Control system from Daktronics. The Show Control product solution provides a combination of display-control software, video processing, data integration and playback hardware.
