Crystal Display Systems has introduced the LucidVue, a new product in transparent display technology, according to a company press release. Based on Transparent Organic Light Emitting Diode Technology, LucidVue eliminates the need for display lighting and showcase box. Possible applications for the LucidVue include retail promotion, hospitality, exhibitions, museum and entertainment, and digital signage, according to the announcement.
"This new genre of technology adds a further dimension to our transparent display offering, giving some real benefits for high end applications that require an emissive display, it will complement our existing range T-LCD panels," said Tony Large, CDS' technical director.
The TOLED displays are currently available in a 55-inch module and use latest production techniques. The self-emitting display enables a crisp image while also offering a high transmittance rate of around 45 percent. The self-emissive pixels contain four sub pixels, red, green and blue for generating vibrant colours, and the final sub pixel (which would typically be black) is now clear, facilitating the transparency.
Poly-silicon TFTs act as the switching method for the Active Matrix of OLED generating a color palette of more than 1 billion colors, with a 180-degree viewing angle in both vertical and horizontal planes, according to the announcement.
