BrightSign digital signage players powering Samsung shops in UK

May 7, 2013

A British electronics retailer has picked BrightSign digital signage players to power video walls for Samsung displays. According to a news release, Samsung highlights its products in select Curry's stores through concessions, or "shops within shops."

The approach is based on creating "an upscale environment that would truly amaze people, excite an affluent audience and position Samsung goods as premium products that are differentiated from the store’s regular line-up," Mike Fabian of Freehand, the audio-visual company that implemented and manages the installation, said in a news release. "BrightSign units provided the reliable, high quality playback that we required for this high profile application."

The installation was commissioned by Cheil Worldwide on behalf of Samsung Electronics, with the players supplied by the distributor Pixels. Each of the concessions features a 2x2 video wall of 46-inch Samsung professional LCD screens promoting tablets, TVs, phones, white goods and other Samsung products. The screens are driven by BrightSign HD220 networked players, which allow playing looped digital content in various multimedia formats. Freehand uses BrightAuthor software to schedule and manage content and the BrightSign Network to deliver updates and receive playback reports, the release said.

"Samsung is a premium brand and equipped the concessions with their very best large format screens," Fabian added. "BrightSign players are the obvious choice to power them, delivering crisp full HD playback — reliably and daily — for years on end without fail. BrightSign's BrightAuthor content creation software is straightforward and easy to use. For example, synchronizing content across the four screens in each wall gave no issue. The BrightSign Network makes it easy to connect to and manage the players from our offices in Surrey, England. In short, a flexible and utterly reliable solution that is low cost and easy to work with. Pixels, our UK distributor, is a long-term partner for Freehand, and their support is outstanding."

Pierre Gillet, BrightSign's vice president for Europe, said, "Samsung is a world leader in consumer electronics and the quality of its TV and video screens is legendary. We are proud that our solid state players have been chosen to deliver content to one of their largest HD screens in a premium showroom environment."

Content for the screens is created by Samsung creative and media agencies worldwide in a variety of moving and static image file formats, the release said, and is collected and consolidated by Cheil Worldwide and delivered to Freehandm which schedules the playlist.
