Betting on digital signage

November 16, 2011

NEXCOM recently announced that its multi-display digital signage player NDiS 541 is being used to bring the thrill of live sports to retail betting outlets in Spain.

The custom digital signage system allows the audience to view all of the information in one place, immersing them in the energy and excitement of the action, NEXCOM said, as well as providing enhanced visual experience at a great value, helping the bookmaker cut installation costs by at least half. Further, centralized control is made possible with built-in Internet capability. Now the audience can grasp every moment of worldwide games all the while simplifying system management for the bookmaker.

The NDiS 541 running Genus Multiview, the bespoke software developed by British system provider 2DB, supports various layouts and four large LCD screens via HDMI interconnect. Each screen is divided into different zones to show multiple contents. Along with multiple screens stacked together, the digital signage player allows the audience to have access to a smorgasbord of information all at once.

In this project, various media contents are displayed on the same screen at the same time. The audience can watch live soccer broadcast on one side of the screen and upcoming events on the other. The screen is also separated into parts to cover basketball games, tennis matches, and greyhound races taking place on different race courses.

Another advantage of the Genus-based NDiS 541 is that it reduces time and cost of system deployment. In the past, the bookmaker used to set up more than 20 small screens with each one connected to its own player that could only handle limited media content. With the NDiS 541, however, the bookmaker can now manage system-utilizing layout on multiple displays with a single player.

And although installed in individual retail outlets, the NEXCOM digital signage player can be controlled remotely from the head office in Madrid. This connectivity allows system administrators to remotely update betting odds and distribute content to more than 60 shops across Madrid and the Aragon region of Spain.
