AOPEN launches Chrome-based all-in-one touch display

Global electronics manufacturer AOPEN announced the launch of its new ultra-slim Chromebase Commercial for digital signage, kiosk and POS systems.

August 18, 2015

Global electronics manufacturer AOPEN Inc. announced the launch of its new ultra-slim Chromebase Commercial — the company is calling it the first commercial-grade, Chrome-based, multitouch all-in-one display on the market today.

According to AOPEN, the Chromebase Commercial is a solid-state device designed to be versatile, tamper-proof and maintenance-free, as well as robust and secure, making it suitable for interactive public display in high-traffic environments (e.g., as a digital signage, POS or kiosk system). The Chromebase Commercial can be mounted in portrait or landscape and is currently available in a 22-inch format with a 19-inch format to follow after.

The multitouch panel features a waterproof toughened glass front, tamperproof cable and mounting, and a fanless design meant to dust out. It is also shock and vibration resistant, the company said, and together with the Chrome OS, it is intended to deliver a diverse system that can display content via apps by accessing the Cloud.

"The Chromebase Commercial is a versatile system built in a tamperproof rugged design for 24-7 use. It puts a full commercial grade device into the hands of retailers for use in demanding consumer environments," said Stephen Borg, global director of strategy and marketing at AOPEN, in the announcement.

"Despite being an industrial-grade device, the Chromebase Commercial has also been designed with the sleek elegance of an end-user device," he said. "It's only 30 mm thick despite its toughened glass front and fits easily into a presentation display or kiosk in a discreet and visually appealing way. At AOPEN we encourage integrators to create innovative mounting solutions and enclosures to optimize the display and the use of our devices."

The Chromebase Commercial has been designed to lower total cost of ownership, with automatic system updates to keep its system secure as well as Zero Touch Point Manageability via the Cloud using Chrome Device Management, both of which reduce the costs of IT support and maintenance, the company said. For connecting other devices such as POS peripherals and authentication devices (e.g., biometrics), the Chromebase Commercial has commercial ports, ruling out the need for multiple power cables.

All Commercial Chrome products come with a yearly or perpetual Chrome Device Management license option. Chrome device management allows administrators to manage their organization's Chrome devices from a single place. Integrators can also use the signage app available via the Chrome Web store to control what's on the screen.

Customers can also decide on a three-year or five-year warranty on products. The Chromebase Commercial is priced at $1,099 excluding tax. Products are available for pre-order now in the U.S. via AOPEN and will be ready to ship this quarter to Australia, Europe and other selected regions, the company said.
